Homage to a great console title

With Typing of the Dead 2 being Japanese only I'll have to make due with this, which is pretty good for a flash game, but could use some depth. Still, the crisp graphics and awesome character design with the campy building animations gets my 5.

Some downs, a lot of ups

Loose controls and poorly defined hit detection areas stopped this game from getting all my 5s. Also, the music stopped after a while. Maybe a fade in to the beginning of the track and a fade out at the end would allow you to make it loop. Nice concept. Great graphical style. Loved the time based goal. Clean up the down sides and maybe add a fuel portion for a sequel. With more levels and maybe some AI enemies (perhaps some more songs) I could see it on XBLA or VC. Great job.

NG is going to shit but authors like you keep me coming

boring

Why didn't you just call this MovieClip hitTest practice beta? What, there's dynamic clip creation? So? It's just the same thing repeating itself. There's nothing that makes this game unique... or fun.

Try making an action game.

First, fuck this "go to a webpage (that isn't even able to be displayed for some reason) for the clue" bullshit. v1.1 was visually better than v1 but IT WAS NOT TOO HARD! In fact, it was too easy. I beat it in under 5 minutes. You are not very good at this genre. You should never write mystery novels. I'm done. Goodbye.

Terrific!

Great concept, stunning graphics and perfectly executed. Seriously, a great example of game design and development. You need to be lauded and heralded as a programmer.

HAHAHA! That SUCKLED!

Seriously, terribly drawn, and your music selector is broken. When I changed scenes the music changed but the selector display didn't. Plus, like we really need more dress-up games. Especially ones as ugly as your tutorial.

And you didn't even tell them to make sections for different clothing for different body types. Like legs1 has a subset of leg_clothing different from legs_2 that you can change with another button. And what about layers? Like shirts that hang over pants?

Also, your setup was terrible. And giving it a fancy name like "Character creator" doesn't make it any less of a dress-up game. What can I expect. It seems that you cannot code properly, as is evident by your broken music selector.

Furthermore,

And I must reiterate: No more ugly (and boring) dress-ups. That's why the only redeeming factor of my only submission was its message rather than it's content. Oh, and I actually at least spent time to make it look good. /portal/view/242661

It's not meant to have good graphics. It's just showing people how to do what I did. This code could be helpful to people. If you didn't care for the graphics, I might improve those. But all my other reviews didn't complain about much/anything. I only added the music selector as an extra thing, it's probably broken because I originally coded it to stay on one frame. And I noted in the example that I'll make another tutorial sometime if people want to know about changing body types/using layers.

The future of animation

God damn, I hope not. Ugly piece of ill-sounding crap, it is. Oh, and terrible text-to-speech sound board! Wonderful. Seriously. I'm not totally lying.

Bland

And nice "extra credit." Really. It's great to generalize. Because lyrics mean nothing, and classic rock has never spewed out a pile of steaming shit. Oh, wait... I was using poxism.

The text was ugly, the color scheme uninspired, the self-gratifying display boring and the questions too easy. And there are good rap songs. And there are bad rock songs.

KyleDaFox responds:

No there are no good rap songs, it was a joke, anyway, yes there are bad rock songs but not many.

Liked it

Very much like SpongeBob KrabbyQuest. Liked the sound. I did however get to the level editor after the 3rd or 4th stage, so I see this as a glitch. Nice BG music. Ambient and not annoying. The graphics were soft as well; easy on the eyes. Simple games are always the best. See: Dr. Mario.

These controls suck.

To fight, you could start by running to the Room of the Three Gargoyles. Push in the right tongue and a door might lead you down a staircase into the Wall Climb. Here you must choose your next path. You could race up to the Observatory, spin the sun dial and pass into the Room of the Golden Idols. Once there, push down on their bases to release the doors. That may take you below or lead you into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue there and you may be headed for the Torch Room. If the elevator is up you could jump into the elevator and descend into the Mine Shaft. You might climb up the ladder or plow through the Stone Wall. Find the key and it may unlock the Tombs of the Ancient Kings, allowing you to climb into the Spider's Liar. If you escape you may have a chance to sit upon the Throne of the Pretender. If the correct door is unlocked you'll be able to crawl into the Pit of Despair and finally make your way through the Cave of Sighs back to the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck.

Seriously, I have carpal tunnel now. Thanks a whole lot. No sound, but it is a beta. The movement was responsive, but you need a better control scheme. And sound. And make your characters bigger. And maybe more than one attack key.

dummyboo responds:

I don't think I can make all those places...I acually don't even watch dbz, I just saw some of the sprites and thought it might make a good game.

A review isn't useful unless you give the submission a 10.
