[SNEK: The Game]

A nice twist on a classic. Great casual game.

Eh, is there a death condition other than running out of fuel? Because I can just land and keep going. I fairly easily maxed out the game. I'd have been peved if I bought this as a full game cart because it's too easy. This is like a Tiger Electronic handheld game level of difficulty. I'd have been happy with that purchase. Born in 81, so a little but of historical perspective from someone from that era.

edit: Yeah, there's a hard mode, which just increases the cost of enemies. If there was another end game condition it would make this more interesting. An endless game just seems boring with no real difficulty other than landing before your fuel runs out. I guess that's a by-product of being indestructible. Perhaps having fuel items that you have to grab and special areas to land to refuel and upgrade the enemies? Then you'd have to either avoid them to keep from going to the next level, which would allow speedrunners or other challenge players to fully upgrade with the lowest level possible. That would be worth a full cartridge for the added optional difficulty.

You don't even have to make it a "new" game or a sequel. Just add it as Game A and Game B and leave the hard mode.

The default game is defintely aimed at a 2020 audience and not an 1989 audience. But there is also a hard mode, if you feel inclined to try it.

OK, so I agree with the other review that the last level may be too long to do in one setting, but I disagree that it should be split in to 2 levels; instead, save states should incorporate the level checkpoints in the boss levels: if a player quits the game the last checkpoint is saved, but if they quit the level then they lose all of their progress.

And perhaps there should be cutscenes after the boss fights, to give a reward for the accomplishment.

And of course there should be a credit scroll after the final level, even if this game is expanded with new levels, and some advertisement of such (or more games) prior to the credit scroll.

Wow, awesome, detailed feedback--thanks so much!

As this online version is intended as an early demo, yes, it's missing some things that would surely be in a production build for mobile. I would love to explore some of those ideas you listed on future releases.

Cut scenes would probably be incorporated on in a future build, post-release. While it does add to the game experience, they are also very labour-intensive and occupy very little screen time in comparison to actual gameplay.

As for credit scroll, because this was a solo project, it would just be my name haha. But yeah, I agree that mentioning new levels will be nice to keep players coming back.

And congrats to you too on beating level 60! I hope it was very challenging. :)

Just to be clear, the entire dev team for this game is based in Latin America, Spanish is our first tongue and the one we use daily, and we see no problem with coming up with new words to be more inclusive. We often do it ourselves in Spanish.
